What Jung-gu is like

Jung-gu sits at the geographic and historical center of Seoul. By day it's a business and retail district — Myeongdong's shopping streets, Namdaemun's traditional market, and the headquarters of several major Korean companies. By evening and on weekends, its residential pockets are quieter than you'd expect from the daytime crowds, especially around Toegyero and Jangchung-dong.

Getting around

Jung-gu is one of the best-connected districts in Seoul: Seoul Station (KTX, subway lines 1 and 4, the Airport Railroad) sits on its western edge, and City Hall Station (lines 1 and 2) anchors the east. Almost anywhere in the district is a short walk from a subway line.

Who tends to live here

Jung-gu suits people who work downtown and want a short commute, or who prioritize being close to Seoul's transit hub over having a brand-new building. Housing stock skews older than newer districts like Gangnam, with a mix of officetels, older apartments and low-rise multi-unit housing (다세대/다가구).
